On Netflix, Jean-Pierre Jeunet returns after 9 years of absence

It’s a nice catch for the red N. The platform which continues to invest in French creation, after Lupine and Plan Coeur, has just unearthed a film which is really worth a look, directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet.

Netflix plays the good students, and continues to invest in French creation. After the success of Lupine, the SVOD platform adds a new French production to its catalog and not least. While it multiplies prestigious collaborations around the world, Martin Scorsese and Tim Burton to name a few, the company is also developing its range of French feature films. It produces and broadcasts the new film by Jean-Pierre Jeunet, known worldwide for The fabulous destiny of Amelie Poulain.

The rather discreet filmmaker for nearly a decade returns this time with a satirical and futuristic comedy. BigBug, will plunge us into 2050 and address the topic of artificial intelligence. The film was shot entirely behind closed doors. Here is the synopsis:

“In a quiet residential area, four domestic robots suddenly decide to hold their masters hostage in their own home. Locked together, a not quite blended family, an intrusive neighbor and her enterprising sex robot are therefore forced to put up with each other in an increasingly hysterical atmosphere! Because, outside, the Yonyx, the latest generation of androids, are trying to take power. As the threat draws closer, the humans deceive themselves, envy each other, and tear each other apart under the bewildered eyes of their indoor robots. And if, deep down, it was the robots that had a soul… or not! ”

A fine team

Behind the camera and the script, the filmmaker has surrounded himself rather well. He thus found Guillaume Laurant in writing, after having collaborated with him on Young TS Spivet’s Extravagant Voyage.
Jeunet will also find actors he knows rather well, starting with André Dussollier who will again play the narrators. Isabelle Nanty will also be there, after going in front of the director’s camera for The fabulous destiny of Amelie Poulain. Moreover, several young shoots of French cinema will also be on the trip.

This is the case of Alban Lenoir, who had previously worked with Netflix in Lost bullet. Claire Chust (Household Scene), Stéphane de Groodt (Kabul Kitchen), Elsa Zylberstein (One + One) and Youssef Hajdi (Valid) complete the cast.

In February on Netflix

The meeting with BigBug is set at February 11 on Netflix. By then, the platform should unveil new images and a real trailer. The least we can say is that these first extracts are rather promising.
