After launching its first foldable smartphone at the end of last year, Chinese giant Oppo is now reportedly working on a first clamshell smartphone, which will directly compete with Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip 3.

According to information from leaker Mukul Sharma (@stufflistings on Twitter), Oppo is expected to unveil its first clamshell smartphone in the third quarter of 2022. It will not be the first folding smartphone from the Chinese manufacturer, since it has already lifted the veil on the Find N a few weeks ago.

As a reminder, the Oppo Find N was launched in China at a competitive price, since it cost much less than the Galaxy Z Fold 3, its main competitor. According to Mukul Sharma, the same would be true for the flip smartphone, the manufacturer having the objective of offering it at a more attractive price than the Galaxy Z Flip 3.

What do we know about Oppo’s flip smartphone?

For now, apart from its release window between July and September 2022 and its competitive price, we don’t know much about Oppo’s upcoming clamshell smartphone. Nevertheless, we imagine that this one will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC, while the Find N had to make do with a Snapdragon 888.

In addition, it is likely that Oppo’s flip smartphone will take up the main selling point of the previous model: the absence of a crease in the middle of the screen. Indeed, Oppo has highlighted the almost total absence of a fold in the middle of the main panel of its Find N. According to the German organization TUV, this would also be 80% less visible than the average.

While the Find N has remained exclusive to China, it’s hoped this new flip smartphone will come to us in Europe. For its part, Huawei has taken the plunge by unveiling its P50 Pocket in France at a rather attractive price of 1299 euros, if we forget the fact that the device is not not compatible with Google services.
