Playables: YouTube gaming might be on the way, but lower your expectations

Games on YouTube? It is one of the most popular content on the video platform, but only in its audiovisual form. In the future, however, it could go from just watching to also playing, initially, based on online gamesas leaked to the press.

It would not be the first time that games have been discussed on YouTube. In fact, it has been many, many years since this possibility was first mentioned and in the same sense that it is done now: with online games, that is, with those games that you can play from the browser. Do not expect anything else, because it does not seem to be the case.

That is, at least, according to the information published by The Wall Street Journal, extracted from the leak of an internal communication between YouTube employees which alludes to a “new service called Playables”, which the media would attribute to a plan proposed by the CEO of YouTube to explore new sources of income, in light of the “ad slowdown”.

YouTube Gaming - games on YouTube

Not many more details of the matter are given except for the possible name of the new YouTube section, Playables (playables), that the services would be based on online games and that it would work on PC through the YouTube website, as well as in the platform’s mobile apps, both on Android and iOS. Of course, it would be a free service supported by advertisements.

Well, the truth is that something else is said. Take a game as an example: Stack Bouncea popular online title that you can play from your browser and if the name doesn’t sound familiar to you, it most likely will as you take a look at it, because it has gone viral on more than one occasion on different social networks.

Well, that’s where it seems that this story is going to go. Stadia is not going to be resurrected within YouTube or anything similar, but since it doesn’t seem like it’s something that YouTube would have a hard time implementing and the casual nature of the initiative is consistent with that of the same platform… Assume that games are coming on YouTube, although it can also be an experiment that doesn’t work out.
