Dell Technologies has announced, at its Dell Technologies Summit 2022 event, Project Frontiera edge trading software platform, which integrates with the rest of the products and services in the Dell portfolio for the Edge. Its mission is to make it easy for its customers to manage and orchestrate infrastructure applications at the edge for large-scale deployments in a secure manner.
With the Project Frontier platform, customers can expect open design support that consolidates existing and new edge use cases in the enterprise for their software applications, Internet of Things frameworks, operating technologies , multicloud environments and future technologies.
Project Frontier also offers Zero Trust protection and security across edge applications, data, and infrastructure. This protection is offered from design to deployment, backed by supply chain security measures. In addition, it provides greater efficiency and reliability of end-to-end edge operations. thanks to its centralized management, touchless deployment and secure device onboarding.
With this platform, moreover, hardly any IT experience is necessary. It features automation to streamline edge deployments and operations across thousands of potential edge locations, as well as edge computing and storage hardware integration with workloads for ease of service and increased security.
Dell has also confirmed that the project will have global planning and support services in 170 countries to facilitate the design and implementation of edge solutions, as well as to create a roadmap for customers to scale their infrastructure and meet their new demand.
Dell Technologies Summit 2022: Other software and hardware news
In order to make it easy for its customers to design and deploy Project Frontier so that they can adapt it to their needs, Dell Technologies has the Edge Design program. Additionally, as Project Frontier rolls out, Dell is expanding its range of edge solutions so businesses can scale and manage their deployments.
One of these solutions is Dell Validated Design for Manufacturing EdgeNow getting better with new Dell Validated partner apps. These applications support advanced edge use cases, and provide the opportunity to reduce the use of waste and raw materials, which affects the sustainability of operations.
These partner applications include Claroty, for factory threat detection and device health assessment; Cognex, which improves production quality and material efficiency; Telit, which makes it easy to break down data silos between sensors and automation devices at the edge; and XMpro, which generates composable digital twins of factory operations to save time and materials in the manufacturing process.
On the other hand, also for the edge, Dell has announced its PowerEdge XR4000 server, of reduced depth and with a size similar to that of a shoe box. It’s 60% shorter than traditional data center servers, and it’s ready to mount with a variety of options. That’s why it can be installed on walls, on the ceiling or in a rack, saving space on the floor. Its 2U-type chassis with several nodes is prepared to face adverse temperature conditions derived from phenomena such as heat waves. Also falls.
This does not impact performance, as the PowerEdge XR4000 is capable of supporting a wide variety of edge workloads and is designed with multi-OS Intel Xeon D processors, with optional GPU support. This computer is available with Dell Validated Design for Manufacturing Edge and powers Dell Vx Rail ruggedized modular nodes, for high performance and scalability in high latency and low bandwidth scenarios.
In addition, Dell has also announced the tablets Dell Latitude 7230 Rugged Extreme, with Intel Core processor, for work in demanding edge environments. Thought to be the totally rugged, light and powerful model of the current ones, it has a 12-inch screen and is prepared to withstand temperatures ranging from six degrees below zero to 62 degrees. It also offers protection against dust, dirt and water. It is compatible with WiFi 6E and offers dual-band support for greater reliability of connectivity. It incorporates an Intel Core processor.
Project Frontier will be available in 2023. Updates to Dell Validated Design for Manufacturing Edge will also arrive early next year. In December 2022 the Dell PowerEdge XR4000 will arrive, and before the end of 2022 the Dell Latitude 7230 Rugged Extreme tablets will also arrive.
