PS5 Pro and Xbox Series X Next will be a reality, according to the CEO of Take-Two

During a round of questions, the CEO of Take-Two, Strauss Zelnick, said verbatim that “it is likely that we will see an intergenerational renewal of consoles”, and also qualified that this will not have a great impact at the business level. These comments allow us to draw very interesting conclusions if we read a little between the lines.

On the one hand, that “probably” fits perfectly with the rumors that we had been seeing about PS5 Pro and Xbox Series X Next, which said that Sony could present its new console at the end of 2024, and that Microsoft would do the same based on the movements of the Japanese company, which means that the new Xbox should arrive shortly after that.

On the other hand, that the CEO of Take-Two is so convinced that they will not have a great impact at the business level indicates that PS5 Pro and Xbox Series X Next will maintain the same approach as PS4 Pro and Xbox One Xand that the developers will have new tools that will facilitate the development of their games with support for both generations.

All this also reinforces what I have already told you on previous occasions, that PS5 Pro and Xbox Series X Next will have changes at the hardware level that they will improve above all the graphic powerand that these will be introduced with great care to maintain full compatibility with PS5 and Xbox Series X, and to minimize complications when developing games compatible with those systems.

The specs of those two new consoles remain a mystery, but we can expect them to repeat using an AMD APU with a Zen CPU and AMD Radeon GPU. To maintain that high degree of compatibility the CPU could still be based on the Zen 2 architecture, although it might be a little faster to improve raw performance a bit. The GPU could be based on RDNA3an architecture that is much more efficient than RDNA2, and also offers better performance with ray tracing.

Another interesting topic that the executive touched on was the support of the old generation of consoles. Zelnick did not specify how long they plan to continue supporting it, but in general terms he commented that they will continue to do so as long as PS4 and Xbox One have a “significant audience”, that is, while their user base remains large enough for these developments. continue to be profitable.
