Realme presents its GT 2 Pro, high-end and bio-based

The Chinese manufacturer has just formalized its Realme GT 2 Pro, a high-end flagship, and (a little) green.

Realme is embarking on ecology. The Chinese brand today formalized the design of its new flagship, designed in collaboration with the Japanese designer Naoto Fukunesawa. A high-end positioning that contrasts with another strong bias of the manufacturer, since the Realme GT 2 Pro is also the world’s first smartphone with a bio-based polymer design.

Described by the brand as “The perfect combination of functionality and durability, technology and aesthetics, modernity and tradition”, the Realme GT 2 Pro therefore relies on a original design, with a textured back reminiscent of the sensoriality of paper. A daring choice for the Chinese brand, which understands well “Bringing the beauty of paper to mobile” and in passing, reconcile two radically opposed tendencies.

Greenwashing or not?

Obviously, we are always wary of the marketing blows of the tech giants, which with well-oiled arguments, lead us to believe that buying their latest smartphone is an act of ecological activism. Regarding the GT 2 Pro, only the shell is made from biopolymers. A material derived from biomass therefore, and which already promises to weigh less on the energy bill of the smartphone. However, the rest of the flagship does not bring real ecological innovation. We will have to be satisfied with this, without waiting for carbon neutrality.

On the other hand, if the GT 2 Pro should not turn its users into lookalikes of Greta Thunberg, the new Realme flagship already promises to impose itself on the market, thanks to a technical sheet already promising on paper. At the rear, the terminal will benefit from a 150 ° ultra wide-angle camera. At a time when most manufacturers are abandoning the ultra wide-angle for telephoto lenses on high-end models, this argument is likely to be emulated by fisheye enthusiasts. It is also the first time that such a mode has arrived on smartphones, assures the brand. Enough to take us back a few years.

On the connectivity side too, the Realme GT 2 Pro is innovative. The manufacturer announced a more stable Wi-Fi signal of around 20% thanks to a new 3D antenna system, as well as a improved NFC chip, which will benefit from a larger detection area of 500%, and a distance increased by 20%. As usual, the brand thinks above all of young adults, now followers of contactless payment and wireless. Finally, we also learn that the phone will also have a powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC, without further details for the moment.

Announced today, the Realme GT 2 Pro will be marketed from January 4, 2022 in China. In an official press release, however, the brand confirms an imminent arrival in France. A little patience then.
