review of these headphones for PS5

And it is that one of the characteristics that make these headphones ideal for consoles is that we will only have to connect them to the 3.5mm audio port of the controller (this is valid for both PS5 and PS4, but also for PC) to start to work, without the need for any additional configuration or adjustment (the console will automatically detect that they are connected and output the sound through them).

These headphones also incorporate a microphone, in this case removable so as not to have it in the way when we don’t need to communicate with the team (for example, to use them when we play single player games). The microphone is omnidirectional, with echo cancellation and includes a pop filter for clearer communications.

It should also be noted that, as is customary in Trust, these headphones have been partly manufactured with Recycled material (specifically, 35% of plastics) to maintain their desire to respect the environment, or at least collaborate in it.

Unboxing and external analysis

The Trust GXT 498 Forta come packed in a rigid cardboard box in which the usual colors of Sony and its PlayStation consoles predominate: white and blue. On the main face we can see an image of the device along with the PlayStation logo, as well as a green label that indicates that they have used recycled materials for its manufacture. Some of its features are also highlighted in the form of an icon.

On the opposite side we find a somewhat more detailed description of the product’s characteristics.

On one side, the manufacturer details the material of its earmuffs (synthetic leather and fabric), the controls on the earpiece, and the removable microphone. Also, at the bottom it confirms that they are compatible with PS5, PS4 and PC.

Finally, on the opposite side we have a complete image of the product accompanied by a table of technical specifications.

We open the box, and as always we are going to start showing you the accessories that come in addition to the headphones; in this case, Trust includes the 1.2 meter cable (minijack to minijack), a user guide, a compliance pamphlet, the pop filter and the detachable microphone. Indeed, as you can guess, the cable is also removable to make it more comfortable to store or take from one place to another.

Let’s take a closer look at the microphone. It has an elongated head, with a flexible metal rod to be able to modify its position; terminates in a minijack connector that plugs directly into headphones. As for the anti pop filter, it is also removable.

Now we are going to see the Trust GXT 498 Forta, which in this case have come to us in its white variant (they are also available in black). As you can see, aesthetically they are quite beautiful and combined with the aesthetics of the Sony PS5, since in fact they even include the logo on the sides of the earmuffs.

They are quite light headphones (they weigh just 253 grams without the cable) and flexible, so although they do not have ergonomic functions that allow a complete adjustment (for example, the ear cups rotate 90 degrees, etc.), being so light and flexible they will fit perfectly on any type and size of head.

Trust GXT 498 Forta

Despite being light, they have a fairly robust construction, and it is not for nothing that, as we have mentioned before, they have had to go through Sony standards to receive official licensed product certification. The entire outer area is made of plastic, while the earmuffs are made of synthetic leather on the outside and fabric on the inside. The headband, for its part, is made of fabric in the padded area.

All the controls and connections for these headphones are located on the left ear cup; In the image below, from left to right we have the microphone connection minijack, headphone connection minijack, volume wheel and microphone mute button.

On the upper part of the headband, we have the logo that Trust uses in its entire line of products dedicated to gaming: GX Trust. This logo is in bas-relief and, although it may not look like it, this area is not made of plastic but is made of some kind of soft material that, honestly, we cannot identify but that is neither plastic nor cloth.

On the inside, and sewn to the top, we have the pad that now has a soft fabric lining.

Of course, the headband can be made larger and smaller at will to fit all head sizes.

As we indicated before, the earmuff pads are made of synthetic leather on the outside to insulate us from noise, but fabric on the inside to give us greater comfort and prevent sweating.

On the outside of both earmuffs, the PlayStation logo. We can also see that both earmuffs are attached to a hook that gives them some play to move and thus better adapt to the shape of each user’s head without problems.

We have to see how the headphones “look”, but first of all we are going to put the microphone on them. Connecting it is as simple as putting a little pressure on the connector, which only goes in one position since it is shaped to fit the headphones.

Now yes, this is how the Trust GXT 498 Forta look in our “test model”.

Trust GXT 498 Forta

Despite not having too many adjustments as such, the Trust GXT 498 Forta fit the shape of the head quite well since, as we mentioned at the beginning, they are quite flexible. In addition, they do not put much pressure on the head.

And despite not having any lighting (they don’t even have status indicator LEDs), they honestly look great with their black and white aesthetic.

Having seen the headphones, the time has come to connect them and tell you how they behave at the moment of truth.

How do the Trust GXT 498 Forta perform?

As we told you before, the operation of these Trust GXT 498 Forta is as simple as connecting them to the console command and that’s it, we won’t have to do anything else.

First of all, these headphones are so light and flexible that you hardly notice you’re wearing them if it weren’t for the cable (we would have liked them to be wireless, although of course, they wouldn’t be so cheap then); In fact, we would have liked the cable to be perhaps a bit as short, although it is true that in that case they would only work for consoles and not for PCs, because we are usually further from the tower.

Regarding the sound quality, we must say that it is adequate but it is not impressive either: the midrange and treble tones are quite remarkable, but it lacks a bit in the low tones due to the absence of a dedicated woofer on the one hand, and on the other that you cannot ask for more from headphones that do not have additional power.

Of course, we have been impressed by how in some games you even notice the 3D audio (of course, in this case we have only perceived it on PS5, because we have also been testing them on a PS4 Pro and we did not pay attention to this detail there), making use of the powerful dedicated audio engine that the PS5 has perfectly. In short, they are very comfortable headphones that sound quite good.

Conclusion and verdict

The Trust GXT 498 Forta are sustainable headphones for PS5 (and for PS4 and PC depending on the manufacturer, although in reality they also work with mobile phones and any other device that has a 3.5mm audio output), officially licensed by PlayStation 5 (and As we have mentioned, this means that they have successfully passed the tough quality standards of the Japanese firm) that they are very comfortable even for prolonged periods of use, and that they provide remarkable sound quality for games.

Trust GXT 498 Forta

Available in the characteristic black and white color scheme of PlayStation but also completely in black, you can now buy these headphones in the entire network of Trust distributors, including in Amazon Spain, at a price of €49.90, a price that we consider it quite tight considering its construction and sound quality and that they are officially licensed headphones.

For all these reasons, we believe that they are deserving of our Gold award, as well as our recommendation for their design and quality / price.
