Spain already has more than 550 proptech companies and enters the top 5 in the world

The Spanish proptech sector you are in luck and celebrates its consolidation in Spain, according to the API collective of Catalonia. And it is that the industry of technology companies that operate in the real estate sector has not stopped growing since the first companies appeared in the year 2000 proptech. So much so that, at the moment, there are already 553 companies dedicated to the sector in the country. It indicates so the latest edition of the Proptech Mapprepared by the API collective of Catalonia.

The tool constitutes a meeting place between professionals and technology and was designed in a clear and digitized way so that professionals can find those proptech that offer a service in the three main areas of their activity: product, clients and agency. All the companies included in the map have been categorized according to the needs of the real estate business to which they provide solutions. The first edition of the Proptech Map was presented three years ago, in April 2020, and had a total of 151 companies.

According to the president of the Association of Real Estate Agents of Catalonia (AIC), Vicenç Hernández RecheProptech growth is unstoppable because the market needs technology to offer what they need to supply and demand”. The economist stresses that “our way of consuming has changed a lot in a short time, because now we want everything fast, transparent and available from any mobile phone, something that Proptech and blockchain technology are achieving to facilitate access to the housing market”.

Spain, a world power in proptech

In this context of exponential boom in the Proptech segment, Spain has become a world power in the Proptech sector. So, according to the barometer ‘Proptech Global Trends 2022’, the country occupies the ninth position in the ranking by number of investors in the period 2021-22. A total of 47 investors registered in public operations through investment rounds by funds or Business Angels. The top-10 is made up of the United States, with 1,269 investors, followed by the United Kingdom (196), India (130), Germany (106), Canada (105), China (96), Singapore (64), France (58) . The ranking is completed by Brazil and Israel (30) tied in tenth position.

In addition, the role of the Spanish proptech industry will increase this year. And it is that, according to the data of the same report, Spain is the fifth country in the world that will attract the most investment to the Proptech sector, 903.5 million euros this 2023, only behind the United States (366,600 million euros). United Kingdom (5,389 million), India (1,791 million) and South Korea (1,363 million).
