E-commerce is growing around the world at a rapid pace, fueled even more by the emergence of COVID-19 and the restrictions on brick-and-mortar stores and mobility brought about by the pandemic. Every year records are broken and so on in 2021 a third of the world’s population has shopped online and retail sales volume almost reached five trillion dollars, assuming 19.6% of total sales to final consumers, according to eMarketer. And as for B2B, its potential is even greater, and Agileintel Research estimates that it would have exceeded 18 billion euros in gross merchandise value in 2021.

Seizing the opportunity is a matter of having the right strategy and using the best forms of online access in these international markets, and this is precisely where marketplaces play a major role as a means of accessing potential buyers, both B2B and B2C.

Project continuity

In this context, Marketplaces Connection emerges as a meeting point between sellers and marketplaces from all over the world, with the objective of increasing the use of these platforms by Spanish companies so that they can take advantage of all the advantages and international potential they offer.

This initiative is the result of the collaboration of ICEX España Exportación e Inversiones, a national public business entity whose mission is to promote the internationalization of Spanish companies and the promotion of foreign investment, and Payoneer, an expert company in the technology and commerce, which allows millions of companies and professionals from more than 200 countries to grow globally by facilitating cross-border payments.

“After the success of the first edition of Marketplaces Connection, we want to give continuity to this unique framework in which to connect Spanish SMEs with the large electronic markets, to train them in the best practices for international sales through them. Marketplaces Connection allows us to do it in a very personalized and direct way”says María Peña, CEO of ICEX and in charge of opening the event.

“Our mission is to be the ideal partner for digital business growth and support vendors to expand their business around the world. Together with our experience and network, we can offer simple methods to pay and collect internationally. I am very excited to create this space together with ICEX and invite vendors to meet, exchange and learn from each other.”, explains Henrik Baumhoff, head of sales and strategic collaborations in Spain.
