“Technologies are a catalyst for people’s health and motivation”

In fact, for many employees the so-called emotional salary has become a decisive factor when belonging to an organization. There are many who evaluate the social benefits, work-life balance or work model focused on hybrid work or teleworking, before deciding on one company or another.

At a time when technological talent is scarce, retaining or attracting that talent that seeks to have the appropriate work tools and a positive work environment is essential. A context where human resources and technology must coexist in harmony.

Precisely to focus on this reality, we have spoken with Alberto Blanco, HR director of Prodware Spain. Recently joining the company in this position, the manager is supported by his experience in other consulting firms such as Sopra Steria, Atos or UST, in addition to his knowledge of creating a platform for talent management.

MCPRO: The health of employees is essential for the future of business. To what extent can it affect the proper development of companies?

The health of people impacts the health of companies as much as the health of companies impacts people. Implementing measures to help employees take care of their health is one of the first responsibilities of any company, first of all for ethical reasons, and because when people work in a healthy environment, physically and mentally, it is easier to achieve their commitment to contribute more and better to business results.

MCPRO: How does technology influence employees? How can you help improve your health and motivation?

Currently, people interact with many technologies in their workplace, so it is difficult to generalize. In any case, technologies, especially current ones, are always a catalyst for people’s health and motivation, because they try to ensure that people have a more relational experience with technology and not just a transactional one.

There is also the perspective that each person has on technology. An example is technologies based on generative AI. One person may perceive that, for example, ChatGPT will help them do their job better and faster, which will positively impact their motivation, while another person may perceive that artificial intelligence will take away their job, possibly generate anxiety.

MCPRO: How can you instil a human resources policy that promotes good mental and physical health of employees? What aspects must be taken into account?

First, there need to be effective organizational structures, leadership styles, processes, technologies and workspace. Without these factors, any HR policy will be cosmetic.

From here, very specific and tangible initiatives can be integrated, such as:

  • Flexibility of schedules and remote and in-person work models, to promote the balance between work and personal life.
  • Incorporate access to gyms and sports activities, both in benefits and in employees’ flexible remuneration plans.
  • Training, gamification and internal communication actions aimed at raising awareness about the importance of having healthy habits in nutrition, mental health and financial health.
  • Development of leadership skills in managers to encourage open and effective communication, recognition, and collaboration.
