As we know, quality has not always been there at Tesla. A study published in July 2022 by the firm JD. Power highlighted certain shortcomings and an abundance of technical problems on the brand’s electric vehicles. The figures speak for themselves, with 266 reports on 100 vehicles only.

The icing on the cake, the brand is not doing much better in its maintenance and after-sales management, as evidenced by the complaints of a dozen Tesla owners filed against the manufacturer. in August 2022. The fault in particular of sloppy and hastily carried out repairs, interminable delays and an insufficient number of approved centres.

But as reported by our colleagues from the specialized site Teslarati, the American company seems determined to improve the situation, at least in part. Indeed, the manufacturer has just deposited a request for a permit to install two new robots within its Gigafactory in Fremontits main production site located in California.

In this permit entitled “Automatic Inspection System”, the manufacturer requests “the installation of an electrical and structural anchor to support two new robots required for the automatic inspection of the dashboard. Anchor for PDP/MCP and Server Panel”.

As you will have understood, Tesla is therefore seeking to set up an automated control system to ensure the quality and finish of the cabin vehicles made in Fremont. It should be noted that the filing of this permit application follows the publication of a job offer last year for an engineer in charge of quality inspection.

Among the expected tasks, it was specified that the engineer in question would be in charge install and operate an automated camera inspection system within the production lines of the Gigafactory in Fremont. The job description in question is also still online on Tesla’s official website and it says that the engineer will join the “Vehicle Engineering” team, i.e. the division responsible “centralized technical aspects and Tesla’s most important programs, such as the four S3XY models, the Cybertruck, cell production, Robotaxis, Optimus and the new factories”.
