Star Wars: Jedi Survivor, the long-awaited sequel to the adventures of Cal Kestis, is due to land on our consoles and PCs this April 28, 2023. Should we expect the conclusion of his journey? Not necessarily according to the director of the title, who hopes to develop a third part.
As you may know, Star Wars: Jedi Survivor is due to land on PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC this April 28, 2023. Originally scheduled for March 15, Respawn teams preferred to postpone the launch of the title for six weeks , in order to offer an optimal experience to the players.
“We are now fully focused on the endgame: bug fixes to improve performance, stability, polish, and most importantly, player experience.” wrote the studio.
While we are therefore a few weeks away from the release of the title, game director Stig Asmussen continues interviews with specialized media. Our colleagues on the site IGN were able to talk to him, and get some information on the way the future of the series.
A third Star Wars: Jedi game envisaged by the director
Indeed, the head of the saga has indeed confirmed that a third game could land, provided of course that this new opus meets with success again. As Stig Asmussen points out, possible sequels were already being discussed internally even before the release of Jedi: Fallen Order in 2019.
“We were already talking about the second game. I mean, frankly, we were even going beyond that. And those are conversations that, when we were talking to Lucasfilm, it was like, Well, where are we going with the second game? he explains.
He adds : “I always wanted to see this as a trilogy. How can we take Cal and the team to new places beyond what we did in the first trip?”.
Concerning Jedi: Survivor, the Respawn executive specifies that the studio already had a good idea of the release schedule for the second episode, just like the stakes, the tone, the scenario and the new gameplay mechanics.
A graphics engine change needed for the 3rd game
If a third episode is finally started by EA, Stig Asmussen believes that it will inevitably be necessary to change the graphics engine. According to him, the best solution would be to switch from Unreal Engine 4 to Unreal Engine 5, the latest version of Epic’s engine.
For now, games running under Unreal Engine 5 can be counted on the finger of your hand. It is possible to see what the engine has in store on Fortnite for example, or with the famous Matrix Awakens demo. But starting this year, many titles under Unreal Engine 5 will make their debut, such as RedFall, Black Myth: Wukong or Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2.
