Microsoft is constantly making new changes to its file explorer on Windows 11, and the latest addition brings a whole new interface for the photo gallery, which should please users a lot.

Windows 11 photo gallery file explorer

Windows 11 File Explorer just gota brand new photo gallery, which lets you preview your shots. This new feature is part of Windows Insider Preview Build 23435, which is currently available for Insiders in the Dev Channel to try.

The photo gallery view can be accessed from the side menu of File Explorer, next to cloud storage options and favorite folders. Once selected, it displays a grid of recent photos stored on your PC, as well as images from OneDrive whether camera backups are enabled. The gallery works the same way as the “All Photos” view in the system Photos app.

What changes on the new photo gallery?

One of the benefits of this new feature is that it allows you toview your photos while browsing files and folders. It is also possible to choose which folders are displayed in the gallery and add subfolders to filter content, making it easier to find specific images.

Gallery view also appears as an option in the file picker of other apps. It means he is easier to find a recent photo in different apps without having to search through all your folders. It therefore facilitates the display and management of photos without the need to switch from one application to another.

In addition to the new photo gallery, be aware that Microsoft is also testing an updated codebase for File Explorer, which uses WinUI 3 instead of WinUI 2. This change should improve the overall performance of File Explorer.

Remember that the gallery display is still in beta and will not be immediately available to all Insiders in the Dev channel. Microsoft plans to track feedback and see how the feature works before rolling it out to everyone. As Microsoft continues to improve File Explorer, it’s likely that more useful features will be added in the future.
