Volkswagen has taken the turn of the electric at full speed. By 2026, the manufacturer intends to launch no less than 10 new electric vehicles on the market. In 2023, we already had the right to redesign the ID. 3, the brand’s “watted” city car. Moreover, VW confirmed the opening of orders in France a few days ago.

This year, we are also expecting the famous ID sedan. 7, designed to compete with the Tesla Model 3, without forgetting the ID. Long wheelbase Buzz with 7 seats. As you may know, the electric combi has a motor with a power of 150kW, coupled to a battery with a net capacity of 77 kWh. In total, the vehicle has a range of 416 kilometers.

3000 km of additional range per year

Thanks to this accessory, the ID. Buzz would therefore be able to recharge its batteries both stationary and in motion, and by extension, to increase its maximum autonomy. It is specified that solar energy can be generated and recharged autonomously without connection to the network. According to ABT, these solar panels allow to increase the overall autonomy of the ID. Buzz of 3,000 km per yearjust that.

In addition to charging, ABT’s solar modules also offer an additional source of energy to power accessories. We can already imagine the possible uses, especially for those who would like to transform their ID. Buzz in a motorhome (power supply for a fridge, a stove or even lights, etc.).

According to ABT, mass production of these panels is scheduled for early 2024. Volkswagen Group Service will be responsible for carrying out the installations within its sites. Regarding the price, it remains a mystery for now. As a reminder, an American startup has launched a similar project to transform the Cybertruck into a motorhome.
