A new problem for the iPhone 14, although it is fair to recognize that those previously detected in this new generation of Apple’s smartphone have been solved with the first updates of iOS 16, mainly with iOS 16.0.2, but to a lesser extent also with iOS 16.0.1 and iOS 16.0.3. In this regard, we already did a few weeks ago a review of the problems detected in the first days, and how those in Cupertino have solved them quickly. I already said it then and I confirm it now: it is true that there were problems, which is reprehensible, but there was also a lot of catastrophism.
And now we find another problem echoed by MacRumors, which claims to have had access to internal Apple documents, more specifically a memorandum, in which it is recognized that The iPhone 14 are having a problem that affects the SIM card and, therefore, cellular connectivity. A problem for which, at least for now, there does not seem to be a definitive solution, although the company is already working on it.
According to said internal document, the ruling affects the entire family, that is, plays on iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max and, when it occurs, users see a message with the text «SIM not supported» on your device. This, of course, means that the device loses cellular connectivity, although at least in principle it seems that the rest of the functions remain unchanged, so its functionality, still limited, will not be completely lost when using WiFi networks.
The problem, according to the investigation carried out so far, indicates that it is not a hardware failure, something that fits with the fact that it is these days when information about the problem has begun to circulate. Thus, everything indicates that the problem would have come from the hand of one of the updates to the operating system. Therefore, If you are a user of an iPhone 14 whose cellular connectivity works well, for now it is best not to update iOS. For users who encounter the error message, Apple recommends allowing a few minutes to pass for now, as in some cases the message has disappeared and the operation of cellular connectivity has been restored without problems.
Even if Apple quickly finds the solution to this problem in the iPhone 14 with iOS, the question remains of how it will be integrated into the updates of the operating system. Apple is already testing iOS 16.1 among developers, and its arrival on the market is scheduled for the end of this month. Thus, it seems more likely that once the cause of this problem has been detected, which we hope will occur as soon as possible, it reaches users in iOS 16.1.1.
