The iPhone 15 would abandon the SIM card tray in favor of the eSIM

eSIM, the digital SIM card integrated into smartphones, will be available on upcoming iPhone models, including the iPhone 15. This means that the physical SIM card tray could be removed. As a reminder, this technology allows users to activate a cellular plan without the need for a physical SIM card.

In France, several mobile operators such as Orange, SFR and Bouygues Telecom have offered eSIM for several years. And according to the latest rumors, the iPhone 15 will be compatible with the eSIM in France. With this integration, users will be able to enjoy a smoother and more convenient experience. Apple would take the opportunity to remove the need to remove the physical SIM card tray to change operator or subscription.

eSIM: the end of the physical SIM card

Apple has already adopted eSIM on all iPhone 14 models in the United Statesthus eliminating the use of the physical nano-SIM card and providing a new connectivity experience for its users.

The Cupertino company also pointed out that up to eight eSIMs can be managed in iPhone settings, allowing users to avoid the hassle of physical SIM cards while on the go.

With the rise of eSIM and expanding its availability, removing the SIM card tray is fast becoming a hot trend. This transition, although gradual, should be completed within a few years. The next launch of the series ofiPhone 15 in September should therefore confirm this trend and allow users to benefit from the advantages of the eSIM, especially in terms of security and convenience.
