The latest WhatsApp news will change your groups forever

WhatsApp is launching many changes and news lately. In recent weeks we have been able to see how the messaging platform has introduced a new payment plan called WhatsApp Premiumas well as new privacy features to prevent them from taking screenshots when sending photos to other people. Meta continues to work on its program to offer users the best possible service and, now, it is the turn of another of the most forgotten sections: the whatsapp groups.

WhatsApp groups have always been one of the most controversial and forgotten sections of the company, especially when compared to its great rival: Telegram. While this allows us to create massive groups of up to 200,000 peoplein the case of WhatsApp the limit was reduced to only 256 people.

In May of this year, Meta announced that it was doubling the number of users in the groups to 512. In this way, although it is still far from its rival, those who needed to create larger groups could still do so. But it seems that 512 people in the group is not enough, and therefore Meta has decided to double this limit again to allow us create even larger groups.

1024 people per WhatsApp group

As we can read in WABetaInfo, Some lucky ones, signed up for the “beta” development branch, have found that they can now create much larger groups. Specifically double. And it is that from Meta they have begun to extend the maximum limit of users of a WhatsApp group up to 1024 users.

As has happened on other occasions, only some users of the WhatsApp “beta” app, both for Android and iOS, are finding this novelty. If we want to know if we are within the new tests, or not yet, we just have to try to create a new WhatsApp group and look at the user limit. If we can add 512 people, we still haven’t received the news. On the contrary, if the limit already appears to us as 1024 users, then we can start using these new groups.

1024 WhatsApp group size

Users of the PC version of WhatsApp, even if they are using the beta, will not receive this possibility until later. If, on the other hand, we are using WhatsApp on Android or iOS and the user limit appears at 512, we do not have to worry. Since this is a novelty in the testing phase, we will simply have to wait a few weeks for Meta to consider that it is ready and launch the change for all users.

Telegram is still ahead

That we can create groups of 1024 people on WhatsApp is fine. And that this change has come in less than 6 months since the previous increase is also very good news, since we could soon see the limit increased to 2048 users. But no matter how much it doubles the size of the groups, its rival, Telegram, is still ahead.

Currently, Telegram allows us create groups of up to 200,000 people, with no performance issues or slowdowns of any kind. In addition, it offers many control options to administrators to help them keep the group from getting out of control. And this is what WhatsApp must also work on if it does not want to continue losing users to its rival.
