In less than a year, we will find Middle-earth with the series The Lord of the Rings on Amazon Prime Video. Here’s everything we know about this first season inspired by Tolkien’s work.
The Fellowship of the Ring is celebrating its candles. The film directed by Peter Jackson, and adapted from the works of JRR Tolkien, was released on our screens on December 19, 2001. Two decades after the initiation of this saga, which spans 3 opuses and as many spin-offs, the Amazon Prime platform Video prepares the return of the universe on our screens. The firm founded by Jeff Bezos is developing a series that will immerse us in Middle-earth, several thousand years before the adventures of Frodo, Sam, Gandalf and the others.
This is a long-term project for Amazon Prime Video. After acquiring the TV rights to the franchise, Amazon is finally preparing to launch its series The Lord of the Rings. This colossal project is soon coming to an end, the perfect opportunity to do a little recap of what we already know.
5 years is the time it took to develop and write the Amazon series. With an estimated budget of $ 465 million for the first season, the platform is not allowed to make mistakes. Nevertheless, the deadline is approaching for Amazon Prime Video, which has announced a release in September 2022. We will find Middle-earth in less than a year. A return to school under the sign of fantasy.

Who will be in the casting?
Written by Patrick McKay and John D. Payne, The Lord of the Rings bet on young shoots to seduce fans of Tolkien’s novels but also neophytes. Like Game Of Thrones before it, the production wants to impose itself durably in the audiovisual panorama and ensure that the planning of its casting will be free for several years. The series even went to recruit directly from the competition and called on Robert Aramayo to play the main character. The actor had played Ned Stark in some flashback sequences of the HBO series. He will also find Joseph Mawle, uncle Benjen Stark in Game Of Thrones.
Moreover, we will find Morfydd Clark in the skin of the young Galadriel and Markella Kavenagh in that of a certain Tyra. Nazanin Boniadi (How I Met Your Mother) and Ismael Cruz Cordova (The Undoing) will also be there, but their roles are still unknown.
That’s a wrap! Thank you to our amazing cast and crew and to New Zealand for being the incredible place we have been privileged to call home as we bring the Second Age and Middle-earth to life. #LOTRonPrime (1/8)

What to expect from this season 1?
No question for Amazon to adapt the plot of Tolkien’s novels, it will be a question here of exploring the past of Middle-earth. This new production, still very discreet, will transport us several thousand years before the adventures of Frodo and Bilbo Baggins. In a time of relative peace, the series will follow a set of characters that are both familiar and new, as they face the dreaded emergence of evil in Middle-earth.
This very enigmatic starting point leaves a lot of room for the imagination and it is still difficult to know which paths the plot will take. We can nevertheless hope to come across some important figures of Hobbit and Lord of the Rings.
In the meantime, the two Peter Jackson trilogies are already available on Amazon Prime Video.
