The mouse with 1 TB of memory arrives: all your games in your hand

Innovation is always important and even if the product in question does not work for various reasons, it can be the start of something better. ADATA is undoubtedly one of those manufacturers that is growing in the market based on quality and above all different products. Your R&D department has taken a concept that already existed and that did not succeed to adapt it to the new times and improve it, will it succeed now?

ADATA XPG VAULT Gaming Mouse

Let’s start by introducing the precursor of this very original idea, which was SONY, where in 1998 it launched the MSAC-US5, a very peculiar mouse that carried a typical USB connection and that was totally different from the rest by including a Memory reader on its back. Stick with a reading speed of 12 mbits per second (1.5 MB / s).

Storage was based on capacities ranging from 8 to 64 MB, quite a lot for that time, so this XPG VAULT is essentially a similar concept.

There are not many novelties in terms of aesthetics with this ADATA mouse beyond the RGB system that it integrates, but going more into the matter with it we see that it uses a system of independent clicks and that it is a mouse for right-handed users. It also integrates side rubber supports, side buttons and its connection is made by USB-C, but as you can expect, this is not what is really relevant about this model, but its 1 TB capacity NAND Flash that connects directly to the PC.

At least this is what the brand has slipped, where when asked about the benefits of this mouse they have slipped the following:

XPG will also allow visitors to take a look at its latest concept product called XPG VAULT, a wired USB-C mouse that wants to be “your library of games in the palm of your hand.” The current prototype can integrate up to 1 TB solid state memory that runs at 985 MB / s and a Gaming Launcher software that promises to make your game libraries comfortably portable and a higher level of gaming integration with the XPG Prime software ecosystem.

Logically, there are many unknowns to see here, since at no time does ADATA talk about the type of NAND Flash that its mouse uses and given the speeds it could be a new generation high-performance SD-Express memory, since this standard supports up to 128 TB and the speeds are very similar thanks to a lane PCIe 3.0.

The way to do it is simple: the mouse would have an M.2 connector on the board to which an adapter that has an SD-Express card reader is connected, as simple as that, compact, light and extremely fast as we see.

The good thing about this idea is that with a single software we will have all the libraries on the mouse wherever we go, without having to download anything on the new PC beyond telling the launcher where the installed game is. The speed ensures optimal performance and the interface should be significantly faster than a SATA 6Gb / s in terms of latency, as long as it is connected to the CPU and not to the plain chipset.

We will see at CES 2022 all the details of this XPG VAULT Gaming Mouse.
