Announced in 2020 by Elon Musk on Battery Day, the mysterious Tesla Model 2, a new electric compact sold at €25,000, is still waiting. But if we are to believe the AutoSpy site, a camouflaged version of the vehicle has been seen in China. Separately, drawings of the car were spotted by fans in a recent video posted by Tesla.
If you follow Tesla news, you may know that Elon Musk has been promising the arrival of an electric car that has been priced below €25,000 for years. Already in 2018, the billionaire had assured that he wanted to launch it in the next three years.
In 2020, during Battery Day, Elon Musk presented new battery models, the famous 4680 cells. At the time, the CEO of the brand promised 5 times more energy, a power multiplied by 6 and up to 16% more autonomy for the same size with these batteries. According to him, this technological advance will precisely make it possible to reduce production costs and by extension the price of its future electric cars.
Only, we are now in 2023. Tesla is still far from offering vehicles at 25,000 € and we are still waiting for confirmation of the existence of this famous low-cost car, since called Tesla Model 2.

And while Tesla is due to present its brand new platform on Investor Day next week that will equip its future electric cars, several elements lead us to believe that the Tesla Model 2 will be part of the announcements. Why that ? First, the Autospy site published several stolen photos of a camouflaged prototype spotted in China. In view of the design, this car looks like a kind of compact Tesla Model Y. It also features the characteristic grille and headlights of the brand’s vehicles.
Finally, Tesla has just released a commercial for celebrate the official opening of its new building dedicated to engineering. In particular, you can see many pre-production drawings and preparatory designs. If the vast majority of them are drawings of already existing models, a sketch caught the attention of fans and specialist media (visible above).
We see a compact SUV never seen before in the manufacturer’s catalog. You’ll agree, Tesla won’t unwittingly leak such details in a promotional clip, especially just days away from a major conference. Of course, this information must be taken with tweezers and we must wait for a possible response on March 1, 2023 during Investor Day.
