While it sometimes happens to be confronted with informants claiming to reveal the design of the Nintendo Switch 2, even if the renderings turn out to be false, other leaks are more credible than others. One can in particular quote the publication of a financial report of a partner of Nintendo which would reveal the period of launch of the console, or the presence of development kits at several studios.

Today another report from the Zippo leaker claims to reveal the price of the next-gen console in advance: 399 dollars. While this information may pique the interest of enthusiastic fans, a healthy dose of skepticism is in order due to Zippo’s controversial track record of accurate predictions.

Is the Nintendo Switch 2 price leak credible?

If you’re unfamiliar with Zippo, he’s known for his bold and often inaccurate claims, earning him a mixed reputation on social media. Despite the Zippo’s track record of spreading false information and banning certain Reddit communitiesthe “leaker” does not budge and continues to share new “revelations”.

Among those claims is the price of the Nintendo Switch 2, which is supposed to be $399. According to the mysterious Zippo source, this price is carefully calculated to strike a balance between console performance, cost effectiveness and consumer appeal. Remember, another report from much more reliable sources announced the arrival of an LCD screen and not OLED, so we already know that Nintendo would have made concessions on its console to keep a low price.

Either way, if the announced release window of the second half of 2024 holds true, a sub-$400 price tag for an upgraded hybrid console with increased specs and performance seems reasonable.

Beyond price, Zippo’s claims extend to Nintendo’s growing list of partnerships, where Epic Games takes pride of place. Potential Unreal Engine integration into other Switch titles, including the use of Unreal Engine 4 for a new Mario game on the NG Switch, adds another layer of excitement to the rumors, but these are more than ever to be taken with a grain of salt.
