The Spectrum Retreat is free for PC but can yours with it?

The Spectrum Retreat is a challenging puzzle game first person set in the not too distant future. You will wake up in the mysterious The Penrose Hotel, a haunting retreat full of details where you will soon begin to discover the mysteries that surround your stay. As we have mentioned before, this game was released in July 2018 but despite being three years old, its graphics engine is still quite demanding and not all gaming PCs will be able to run it satisfactorily, especially at high resolutions.

How to get The Spectrum Retreat for free for PC

The Spectrum Retreat

As usual, this week’s free game can be found in the Epic Games Store, and the method of getting it for free and forever is the usual one. You will need to be registered on the platform and you have two options to access it: if you have the Epic Games Launcher installed, simply run it and you will see that the game is available in the “Free games” section. Simply click on the game and hit the “Get” button to make the purchase as if you were buying any other game, only until July 8 you can do it at zero cost.

Alternatively (if for example you do not have access to your usual PC where you have the Launcher installed) you can also get the game for free through the web. Simply enter the store page, log in and follow the same process that you would from the Launcher, the game will also be added to your digital library of games.

Minimum and recommended system requirements

Next we are going to list the system requirements that you will need to run this game; The first two columns (minimum and recommended requirements) are as published by the developer, but the 4K requirements column has been added by us with our estimates.

Minimum requirements (1080p @ 30 FPS low settings) Recommended requirements (1080p @ 60 fps high settings) 4K requirements (4K @ 60 FPS max settings)
Processor AMD FX-6300
Intel Core i4 3.5 GHz
AMD FX-8350
Intel Core i5
AMD Ryzen 2600
Intel Core i7-8700
RAM 4GB 8 GB 16 GB
Graphic card AMD Radeon RX 550
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750 Ti
AMD Radeon RX 570
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB
AMD Radeon RX 6700
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070
Disc space 8 GB 8 GB 8 GB
Operating system Windows 10 64 bit Windows 10 64 bit Windows 10 64 bit

As you can see, the game is relatively demanding even taking into account that the minimum requirements are to make it work at Full HD resolution and 30 FPS with the graphics settings on low; they don’t go too high for the game to work at 1080p and with high graphics settings, but the requirements skyrocket a bit when we talk about 4K resolution at 60 FPS or more and with everything at maximum, since The Spectrum Retreat is a game with a quite rich scene in objects, brightness and reflections.

Although this is not a very well known game and it is not very expensive in itself (it costs 12.99 euros normally), it must be said that it is not very well optimized and the graphic load that it supposes for the PC is quite high, so don’t be fooled because you will need a relatively powerful PC to run properly.
