The speed of Chrome 99 has grown significantly

Google Corporation, as it became known, right now, more than ever before, is determined to claim the title of the company that provides the best browser, and not only on its platform. Going into details, the company claims that the new build of its own browser, namely Chrome 99, is significantly faster on macOS and Android. Thanks to a speed-focused “build optimization technique” and improved graphics processing, the updated version of Chrome is reportedly 7 percent faster overall than Safari, while Google’s brainchild is 15 percent faster in terms of graphics processing.

What’s more, this same Chrome 99 even beats Safari in Apple’s own Speedometer test on a MacBook Pro with M1 Max, according to Google’s official post. The internet technology giant also added that the latest version of Chrome is nearly 43 percent faster than when the first Mac M1s arrived in late 2020. One of the biggest improvements came at the end of 2021, when Google introduced a new JavaScript compiler that offered especially strong benefits to Chrome users running Apple Silicon-based Macs.

In the meantime, Android users should also see significant improvements in the browser experience. The fact is that the latest mobile version of Chrome, running on Google’s mobile operating system, functions 15% faster, according to aggregated real data. This result was achieved primarily thanks to optimized navigation, which includes prioritization of “critical” moments of the interface.

Performance, of course, is not directly comparable between this version of the browser and the speed of Safari on iOS, but in any case, the browser from Google is now noticeably faster, due to which the gap between them is significantly reduced. But be that as it may, it should also be taken into account that the claimed acceleration does not always correspond to what users get in the case of real operating experience. And besides, this news will obviously not be ignored by Apple, which, most likely, will respond to this Chrome improvement in any way. And if this all happens, then the gap reduced in favor of Google may return to its original place. One way or another, no matter what happens, we can be 100 percent sure of one thing – this “race” will be extremely beneficial for users, since we will get faster browsers anyway.
