This is the most interesting Raspberry Pi you can buy right now

The Raspberry Pi 4 went up in price, it is true that only the model with 2GB of RAM did, but not everything is going to be bad news for the maker world. The Raspberry Pi Foundation seems to have wanted to compensate for the measure and presented a new Raspberry Pi Zero 2W. The successor to that version with a more compact form factor is now up to five times more powerful and could also be the best purchase option.

Raspberry Pi Zero 2W

About six years ago, The Raspberry Pi Foundation launched a new model of the Raspberry Pi. It was a much more compact proposition than what was already the classic development board that we all know today.

Why something even smaller? Well, to be able to face other types of projects where, surely, having USB A connections or a full-size HDMI is not essential. Even so, thanks to the use of adapters and other components that can be attached to it, you can have the same experience.

Well, now they launch the Raspberry Pi Zero 2W, a new generation where practically nothing changes in terms of design and options, but in power. So let’s see its main features.

Characteristics

  • Dimensions and weight: 65 x 30 mm and 16 grams
  • Broadcom BCM2710A1 processor with quad-core Cortex-A53 at 1Ghz
  • 512 MB LPDDR2 RAM
  • Connectivity: WiFi, Bluetooth 4.2
  • Connections: 2 x Micro USB 2.0 (OTG + power), mini HDMI, 40-pin GPIO, microSD reader and CSU-2 connector for camera

As you can see from its technical characteristics, the new Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W is practically a carbon copy of its previous version. Same form factor and connections, but higher performance thanks to a processor that right now in tasks single thread provides 40% more power. And in the same way that in this type of tasks it improves, in which they are multi thread well too. Up to five times more power.

If we add that it maintains both Micro USB or mini HDMI type connections and, above all, the GPIO connection, the result is an interesting and attractive proposal that makes it the most recommended model right now. At least it is our opinion seeing that with previous versions you could do such interesting things as create your own GameBoy with GPi Case and RetroPie.

An ideal Raspberry Pi to start with

The Raspberry Pi 4 and the Raspberry Pi 400 had been the most striking options so far and they will continue to be so for a large majority of users, especially the second when they arrive with everything to start working thanks to that keyboard case.

However, the launch of the Raspberry Pi Zero 2W makes it postulate as the ideal model to start messing with these development boards and much more. Because it is cheap, it only costs 16.94 euros in stores that distribute the product officially such as RaspiPC.es, Tiendatec or Kubii. And because by performing more more can be done without fear that the experience is not entirely satisfactory.
