this new feature of watchOS 10 wants to replace your business cards

WatchOS 10, the next version of the Apple Watch operating system, has in its fifth beta a feature previously reserved for iPhones running iOS 17.

NameDrop Apple Watch

That’s it, it’s no longer useful to walk around with business cards in your bag. Apple Watches running the latest watchOS 10 beta now support long-awaited NameDrop functionalitya contact sharing launched by Apple that promises to simplify the way users exchange contact details.

NameDrop was originally unveiled as a flagship feature of Apple’s upcoming iOS 17. Instead of the traditional method of manually entering phone numbers to establish connections, NameDrop harnesses the power of AirDrop to enable effortless exchange of information between devices. While it was only available on iPhone until now, you can now share your contacts from your connected watch.

NameDrop comes to Apple Watches with watchOS 10

WatchOS 10 Beta 5 now lets you share your information with other Apple devices. When two compatible devices are brought together, a contact sharing interface automatically appears. A simple tap on the pop-up window reveals the contact details of the person as well as their avatar. Users then have the option of choosing between “Receive only” and sharing their own contact details.

As Aaronp613, who specializes in discovering new features, shows in a shared video that unveils the new feature, it not only works with an iPhone running iOS 17, but also with other Apple Watches running watchOS 10.

If the option does not appear automatically when two Apple devices using two different identifiers are in contact with each other, Apple Watch users can also use NameDrop by tapping the “My Card” Share button in the Contacts appor by tapping the My Map watch face, then bringing the Apple Watch face-to-face with someone else’s Apple Watch.

You can now try the feature for yourself. If you have opted in to the developer channel in the update settings, then you can freely install watchOS 10 beta 5 on your watch. For eligibility, make sure you have an Apple Watch Series 4 or later to access the watchOS 10 beta.
