
After many controversies and several dramas caused by dangerous challenges, TikTok is trying to strengthen the protection of minors on its platform. The social network gave details this Wednesday on Content Levels, a system which prevents the youngest from accessing adult content.
As you may know, TikTok has been trying to restore its image for the past few months. The fault of several dangerous challenges which for some have resulted in tragedies. We remember, for example, these two girls aged 8 and 9 who lost their lives trying to reproduce a challenge this Wednesday, July 6, 2022.
Shortly after this crash, a reputable insider posted information about a new system being tested at TikTok. This was a function to limit access to minors to content reserved for adults.
However, on this Wednesday, July 13, 2022, the application has finally given details on this system in a official blog post. baptized Content Levelsthe goal with this feature is to offer different levels of contentadapted according to the age of the public.
TikTok launches Content Levels to protect children from adult content
“We are working on implementing a new system to organize content according to thematic maturity. Many people are familiar with similar systems used in the film industry, television or video games. We create with these systems in mind knowing that we need to develop a unique approach for TikTok,” announces social network.
In the coming weeks, the application will therefore introduce a first version of Content Levels in order to prevent overtly mature themed content from reaching those under 18. In fact, when a video is dedicated to a mature theme or dedicated to an adult audience, a “maturity” level will be assigned to the video (we can compare this to the PEGI system used on video games for example).
“In the coming months, we plan to add new features to provide detailed content filtering options to our entire community, so they can enjoy more of what they love.” assured TikTok on its official blog. As a reminder, TikTok has been in the sights of the United States since the beginning of July 2022 for a case of theft of personal data.
