What each iPhone camera lens does

If you are not familiar with the iPhone camera ecosystem, in this post we are going to see what each of the lenses does. That is, what is the function they carry out, and what does this imply when taking photos. In the same way, we will review how many cameras Apple phones have incorporated in recent generations.

If the iPhone has three lenses

iPhones with three cameras are usually found in the Pro ranges. In this case, we find the iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max, 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max, and the iPhone 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max. In the last three years, we have six models with three lenses. Now, what does each of them do? In the three generations, we can group them as follows:

  • Main camera (or Wide angle)
  • Ultra wide angle: it is the lens that allows you to take photos at x0.5 zoom. That is to say, it is the camera that offers us more amplitude.
  • Telephoto lens: it is the lens that allows us to focus more closely, combining optical zoom and digital zoom.
