WhatsApp should soon add a feature to its application that will allow certain users to send short video messages, as they can currently send short audio messages.

Just days after announcing the arrival of pinned messages on WhatsApp, WABetaInfo has unearthed a new feature in the latest beta version of Meta’s messaging app. The company would now work on a feature for sending video messages.

On the beta version for iOS 23.6.0.73 of WhatsApp, WABetaInfo discovered that it was now possible to record and send short video messages. Until now, users could only send text and audio messages, or even multimedia files from their device’s gallery.

Video messages are coming soon to WhatsApp

Sending video messages on WhatsApp would be as easy as sending audio messages. Users can simply press a button and the press and hold to record a video up to 60 seconds long. Once the video is sent, it is displayed in the chat in a circular form and is read automatically. This feature therefore works quite similarly to its equivalent on Telegram.

Another interesting detail, these short video messages are end-to-end encrypted and cannot be saved or forwarded. However, note that screenshots are allowed, but it is unknown if the sender will be notified if you decide to immortalize the moment.

This addition wasn’t really necessary, but we’re sure some users will put it to good use. The feature mainly allows you to send a quick video, rather than recording a video with your smartphone and sending the file to your interlocutor.

As usual, the feature is currently not available only to a small number of WhatsApp beta users. It is not yet known when the company will roll it out to everyone, but it will probably take several months. In the meantime, we remind you that iPhone owners have also recently received another must-have feature: text detection in photos. On PC, WhatsApp has also received a major new update that brings video calls for up to 8 people, and up to 32 people on audio.
