Microsoft has acknowledged an issue affecting Windows 11 21H2, which has been identified following the release of update KB5023774, which was rolled out just today. After installing that update with that version of Windows 11 the game Red Dead Redemption 2 suffers a bug that prevents its execution from the Rockstar launcher.
The Redmond Giant you haven’t explained exactly why this failure occurs with Windows 11 21H2 after installing that update, it has limited itself to describing the failure indicating that this failure occurs in the execution of Red Dead Redemption 2, and that the play button will change to “loading”, and after the failure it will show the play option again.
To solve this problem right now we only have one option, and that is upgrade to Windows 11 22H2. This is a problem in itself because this update has also been giving problems since its release. I know that in theory most of the problems were fixed with the KB5020044 update, which was released in mid-December, but it is a version that does not enjoy the same maturity as 21H2, and in the end this ends up representing a certain risk.

Microsoft is already investigating what happened, so it is possible that sooner or later they will end up releasing a patch or listing a solution that allows solving this problem without having to update to Windows 11 22H2. If you are having problems with Red Dead Redemption 2 on Windows 11 21H2 right now you only have two options, wait for a fix to be released or upgrade to Windows 11 22H2.
There is no doubt that this is another proof that Microsoft has to do something with its update model, because it is not normal that whenever it releases a new patch or a new semi-annual update, they come out of the testing phase with serious problems that are not have been identified, and end users end up suffering in their flesh. These are not “beta testers”, and they hope that when an update arrives to their operating system, which is one of the pillars of any PC, it will work correctly.
I know that releasing properly optimized updates with guaranteed compatibility for different types of PCs configured with different hardware It’s complicated, but that was the model that Microsoft chose, and it is about time that it was able to offer a minimum of updates with an acceptable level of quality, and free of serious errors in its final versions.
