Windows 11 Copilot, now available for Insiders

You will surely remember that, earlier this week, We tell you that Windows 11 Copilot I was already close to reaching the insiders Windows. Specifically, according to the source we cited in said news, this deployment was expected to begin in the coming weeks. Of course, at that time there was no specific data regarding the date, nor on which channel this new assistant was scheduled to debut.

When Microsoft introduced Windows 11 Copilot, in Microsoft Build 2023, the company stated that its rollout would begin sometime in June. However, based on information from earlier in the week, it seemed that the Redmonds were going to miss that deadline, if only by a few weeks. This, however, would have been understandable, since the technical complexity of this new function It can lead, at any time, to the need for developers to take more time than initially planned.

In this regard we must remember that Windows 11 Copilot claims to offer access to various features, some of which we’ve already seen previously in the new Bing and in Microsoft Edge with Copilot, but also others specific to the version of the wizard for the operating system, such as the ability to open applications and make certain adjustments to the settings of the system. And just think of the potential negative effects a failure could have on its operation, given your ability to access and modify system settings.

Windows 11 Copilot, now available for Insiders

However, finally the deadline announced last month will be met since, according to what we can read on the official Windows blog, the Insider Preview Build 23493 recently released by the company already offers a preview of Windows 11 Copilot. Specifically, the channel chosen for its deployment is Dev. And yes, when they talk about preview they mean an already working version of the assistant, but at the moment it only offers a limited set of functions. This is the list published by the company:

  • “Switch to dark mode.”
  • “Turn on do not disturb.”
  • “Take a screenshot”
  • “Summarize this website” (active tab in Microsoft Edge)
  • “Write a story about a dog that lives on the moon.”
  • “Make a picture of a koi pond with lily pads.”

This selection is very interesting, because despite being quite limited, it already allows us to evaluate the operation of Windows 11 Copilot in different facets. The first two entries modify aspects of the operating system’s configuration, the third invokes a function from another application (although, in this case, it is also from Microsoft), the fourth transfers an Edge Copilot function to the wizard, and the fifth and sixth access the generative functions of the Bing chatbot and Image Creator.

Of course, in said publication it is indicated that the assistant will only reach, at least initially, a part of the Insiders of the Dev channeland those users are asked to use the feedback function to provide Microsoft with all relevant information about its operation.
