It’s been several months since Android apps made their official debut on Windows 11, lastingly strengthening the bond between the two operating systems. The service has since grown significantly. It is estimated that to date, more than 50,000 applications are now available on the Microsoft OS from the Amazon App Store. A nice score, but which is far from what we should achieve within the next few weeks.

In a recent blog post, the Redmond company announces great news for all Android developers. Starting today, the Amazon App Store is open to all apps that want to get a Windows version. This means something essential for functionality: the Windows Subsystem for Android (WSA) is now stable enough to accommodate a large number of applications.

Windows will soon be flooded with Android apps

To facilitate the work of developers, Microsoft has made available all the documentation indicating the best practices to adopt in order to improve the user experience. The firm particularly emphasizes the possibility of modifying the size of the window as well as the mapping of the buttons for the keyboard and the mouse. Finally, each application will have to obtain the publisher’s approval before being published on the Amazon App Store, in order to avoid too many bad ports.

As a reminder, WSA is now able to run Android 13, which only increases the potential for applications compatible with Windows 11. It is very likely that Android 14 will also be available shortly after its deployment on smartphones. Suffice to say that we now expect a real tidal wave. If the use of Android applications on Windows is still relatively niche, many developers today have a card to play to stand out from the competition.
