Windows Vista turns 15: 5 features still in Windows 11

The most veterans surely remember some of the many versions that Microsoft has offered us of its Windows system over time. We tell you this because one of the best known, although not one of the most beloved, turns 15, as it is Windows Vista.

Initially, the firm bet very heavily on this version of the operating system, however, it did not have the success expected at first. In fact, if something characterized this software that we are commenting on, it was the many errors that it presented from the beginning. For all this precisely the users, or a good part of them, chose to discard the installation of this new system launched at the time.

With everything and with it and in spite of its little acceptance, this version of Windows gave way to other more successful ones, creating a part of its features and functions. In fact, we could say that even some elements that we found in Vista in its day still are kept in the current and new Windows 11. And we could say that Microsoft is an expert in reusing those elements, objects and features that work for future projects.

Precisely in these same lines we want to talk about some functions that we saw in this highly criticized version of the system, and are still in force today. The reason for this is quite simple, and that is that there are certain characteristics that over time have become key in the Redmond system. Despite the failure of Windows Vista, the company was able to take something positive and take advantage of certain features.

Windows Vista features we still see in Windows 11

These characteristics to which we refer and which have managed to withstand the passage of time and the versions of Windows, refer to both functional and interface sections. In fact, there are some that disappeared for a while and Microsoft has decided to bring them back due to the requests of its millions of users.

  • UAC or User Account Control: firstly, we will talk about the function for the control of user accounts or UAC. This is a basic element in the operating system that Windows Vista already had and that increases the security and functionality of the system. All of this makes it possible to manage the permissions of the different users who use the PC apart from the administrator in a much more effective way.
  • WindowsMedia: Microsoft has long decided to include its own applications, or parts of them, pre-installed on the system. In Windows 11 we will see a renewed Media player, Windows Media, which at the time we could already use in Vista. With this move, those from Redmond want us to forget third-party solutions like VLC.
  • Effects and transparencies: In addition to functionality as such, Microsoft places a lot of importance on the interface of software like this. Hence, elements such as effects and transparencies have been maintained over time. We saw these in Windows Vista and they are still valid in the current versions of the system.
  • windows-firewall: Something similar happens with everything related to the security, hence previous versions of the system such as Vista included its own Firewall. This is something that has been maintained over time. In fact, little by little it has been improving and adapting to current protection requirements.
  • widgets: These small software objects were once very popular with users, but for security reasons they disappeared natively. But due to the requests of these, the widgets again return to Windows 11, which partly reminds us of the appearance of the view desktop.
