Elon Musk has clearly had enough of the calls to order from the European Union regarding its management of moderation on X (Twitter). According to an internal source, the billionaire is considering cutting access to the social network in the Old Continent, thus allowing it to escape stricter regulations than in the rest of the world.
Nothing seems to be able to stop the descent into hell of what was once Twitter. Since Elon Musk came to power, not a week has gone by without bad news hitting the platform’s most loyal users. This week, on the other hand, is particularly busy. Already yesterday, the billionaire dropped a little bombshell on the social network. In New Zealand and the Philippines, new arrivals will now have to pay $1 a year to have an account.
A situation that we thought was unthinkable barely a year ago and which, however, continues to deteriorate. Yet another whim from the businessman triggered by the multiple calls to order from the Commission, particularly since the resumption of violence between Israel and Palestine, on the blatant lack of moderation and the fight against fake news on the platform.
Twitter in Europe is (perhaps) soon to be over
It must be said that the timing is particularly bad for It therefore seems that Elon Musk does not really want to comply with this DSA, and would rather prefer to withdraw completely from the continent, or block access to Internet users, like his competitor Threads for the moment.
“That’s part of the reason he took on international teams every chance he got.”, explains a source from Business Insider, referring to the immense wave of layoffs which affected Twitter with the arrival of Elon Musk, which particularly affected the moderation teams. Since then, there are almost no X offices left on the Old Continent. The offices in Paris, Madrid and Berlin are now closed, leaving only Dublin to hold the helm.
Strategically, Elon Musk would not take a big risk by withdrawing from Europe. According to Apptopia data, only 9% of X users are European. Note, however, that the latter have largely deserted the platform since the billionaire took power, between 10 and 40% depending on the country. Conversely, by remaining in its positions,

In the past, Elon Musk has already expressed his desire to limit access to Later, he would have considered extending this availability to the United Kingdom and Japan, where the platform is still very popular. Furthermore, if Europe has been particularly affected by office closures, it is not the only one: India, Australia, South Korea and several African countries have also been affected.
