40% of Minerva startups create IT solutions from small towns

The innovation and technological entrepreneurship in Andalusia It goes beyond the scope of the big cities. In fact, four out of ten startups accelerated by the Minerva Program have created their technological solutions from small municipalities, outside the provincial capitals. The business accelerator, promoted by the Ministry of Economic Transformation, Industry, Knowledge and Universities and Vodafone, has helped to maintain or generate since its launch more than 140 jobs, with the promotion of technological projects outside the great capitals of Andalusia.

Minerva startups demonstrate that undertaking from small municipalities is possible and that also contribute economic wealth to the region from which they generate business. This is the case of Waniyanpi, which from Andújar (Jaén) has launched the first online shop for pets where customers can customize functional and 100% natural snacks with the characteristics that their pet needs. Also a municipality of Jaén, Alcalá La Real, is the headquarters of an industrial automation and artificial vision startup, Oslice Technology.

Digitization is also possible from municipalities further away from the provincial capitals, as is the case of Sporttiawith an office located in Lebrija (Seville), which introduces smart solutions in sports centers for their complete digitization; the Sibyl, cultural company that from its headquarters in Rota (Cádiz) works to apply new technologies to revitalize cultural spaces and digitize historical heritage.

Agrotech and biotechnology

Biotechnology has gained ground in recent years and is one of the industries within the program with the largest number of startups located in more rural areas. From La Puebla del Río (Seville) continues to grow G2G Algaean R+D+i company that works with the aim of applying microalgae cultivation technology as a tool to recover and conserve the planet’s natural resources and biodiversity.

The Sevillian countryside is also home to Cultiply (La Rinconada), another industrial startup that has developed systems based on bioreactors that accelerate and improve fermentation processes, allowing companies in the sector to save on production costs.

The provinces of Seville (45%) and Cadiz (24%) They concentrate most of the municipalities from which these projects are undertaken, although there is geographical representation of all areas of Andalusia, from the coastal area of ​​Almería to the inland region of Huelva. Among the most outstanding development sectors are the projects that they undertake in the field of health and well-being, agriculture and that create digital solutions for companies. In addition, seven out of ten of these startups have developed their initiatives in towns with fewer than 50,000 inhabitants.
