a new series in development at CBS

The Star Trek galaxy continues to expand. CBS relies heavily on the license to increase the ranks of its platform and is currently developing a new production of its kind: Starfleet Academy.

After three films in the cinema between 2009 and 2016, Star Trek made a return to the small screen with Discovery. A return to basics for the universe imagined by Gene Roddenberry in 1966. Since then, CBS has continued to add many programs stamped Star Trek to the catalog of its Paramount + platform. According to Deadlinethe list should grow a little longer, since the firm is working on a new live-action series.

According to sources familiar with the matter, the company is currently developing Starfleet Academy, inspired by the eponymous video game. The combat simulation game released in 1997 was developed by Interplay for Windows and Mac OS.

In this new series, it will obviously be a question of following young cadets who hope one day to win the command of a ship of the United Federation of Planets. All this intrigue should therefore take place on Earth, at least in part. As a reminder, the Academy was founded in 2161 and is located under the Golden Gate Bridge in California.

Still according to information from Deadline, it is to Gaia Violo that Viacom CBS plans to entrust the project. The designer notably worked on the Absentia series between 2017 and 2020. Many projects in the pipeline

Alex Kurtzman’s strategy is ultimately quite simple. The creator, at the head of the entire Star Trek license, plans to accelerate the pace in the coming years. “We have to think over several years. We would like new shows to air in two or three years, so we have to start planning them now. There’s a bunch of stuff in development that’s starting to take shape and we’re super excited.”

Until then, Star Trek gives us an appointment on March 3 with Star Trek: Picard. For its second season, the series will resurrect several iconic characters, starting with Q who will play the role of antagonist in this new series of episodes. Fortunately, Picard can count on an old ally to thwart his plans. Whoopi Goldberg will indeed return in the skin of Guinan, the bartender el-Aurienne of the USS Enterprise.
