A secret of the AirPods is discovered 7 years later

After a long time locked in a drawer, a secret of the AirPods design has been discovered, which was left parked for unknown reasons. So in today’s post we explain what it is about, as well as, We are going to show you the designs that never came to lightand the purpose they would have had in their day.

It all started with the launch of the iPhone 7.

What has been discovered recently is that the first AirPods, still keeping the shape we all know, had (on the outside) a color palette very similar to those of the iPhone 7, so that they would have matched the phone. This has been known thanks to a private collector who, somehow, has obtained these AirPods, and has shared the images with the English-speaking portal MacRumors.

As reported by the media, Apple developed prototypes in black, gold, pink and red. Recall that the iPhone 7 was available in matte black, glossy black, gold, rose gold, silver and red, the latter under the Product(RED) brand. Still, when it comes to the colors of the AirPods, Apple would have coined the terms “Blonde” and “Pink”, for the colors gold and rose gold, respectively.

The iPhone 7 was built on a metal surface on the back, while the AirPods have a plastic finish. As explained in MacRumors, this differentiation in the nomenclature was to qualify the difference in finishes in both products.

The person who has shared this information (@KosutamiSan), has uploaded some images to Twitter with some AirPods in “pink” color, according to the official Apple nomenclature. In the photos you can see how, indeed, the outer part of the headphones is colored, while the headphones and the inner part of the case maintain the same white color that everyone has come to know.

But not only AirPods hide a secret

Already in 2016, the same medium MacRumors, released some photos about a secret of the design of the iPhone 7, which, in the same way, ended up being discarded. Although the shape of the phone was the same, the truth is that there was a color that, although already tested, ended up being discarded. It is about the purple color, which we have been able to see in later generations of the iPhone.

In the images you can see an unassembled iPhone 7 back cover, which is painted purple. Therefore, the assembled and functional phone with the casing in this color is not shown. The iPhone 7 was the first Apple phone to be released without an audio jack. In that same year, AirPods made their debut on the market, thus becoming the company’s quintessential headphones.

The initial intention was that both devices would “match” in terms of colors, since it was summoned to buy the headphones along with the phone. Maintaining the essence of the classic shape of the wired EarPods, but adapted to the wireless connection was the differential point of these headphones.
