Andrew Garfield doesn’t rule out return

A few weeks after the release of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Andrew Garfield is finally speaking on the film developed by Marvel and Sony Pictures.

It has been almost a month since Spider-Man: No Way Home sets theaters all over the world on fire. The third installment of the saga with Tom Holland met with unprecedented success for the franchise and quickly established itself as the biggest film of 2021, still marked by the pandemic.

While many fans have already been able to discover Jon Watts’ new film, the various actors finally decide to break the silence. This is the case of Andrew Garfield, who after months spent denying the rumors about his participation, confides the reasons which pushed him to find the Spider-Man costume for this anthology meeting. In an interview with Variety, the actor who played it in Marc Webb’s films in 2012 and 2014, explains himself.

“I am so grateful. I’m really, really grateful that I was able to sort out some details for the Peter that I was playing. I love this character and I am grateful to have worked with these incredible actors, this director who is just as much, and especially in collaboration with Marvel and Sony. It was joyful, and a way for me to turn the page. There were so many unanswered questions for my Peter. I had to go back and get redemption for him. I also wanted to support Tom Holland, and honor his character by completing his trilogy, without harming him or distracting viewers ”.

Finally a The Amazing Spider-Man 3?

Obviously, these statements relaunch the rumors about the start of a third part of the saga The Amazing Spider-Man. If Sony has so far been careful not to say more, many fans believe that the postponement of Morbius could be related to Sony Pictures’ desire to include Andrew Garfield in a post-credits scene.

However, The Amazing Spider-Man is undoubtedly the saga the least appreciated by the amateurs of the fabric weaver. Blame it on a wobbly plot and the difficulty of winning after Sam Raimi and his work still considered a classic of the genre today.

Andrew Garfield nonetheless made an excellent Spider-Man, one who could easily find a place within the Marvel multiverse and the Sony franchise. Seeing him evolve after Gwen Stacy’s death wouldn’t be a bad idea after all. The actor even says he is ready to resume if the game is worth the candle.

“I’m definitely open to discussion, if I feel like it. Peter and Spider-Man are people-oriented characters who are of service to as many people as possible. He is a boy from the working class of Queens who experiences struggle and loss. He is deeply empathetic. I think I would try to borrow Parker’s ethical framework, which is: if there is an opportunity to tell this story in more detail, I should be sure of myself ”.

In the meantime, the next date with the Spider-Man should take place in the next few years, for the fourth film with Tom Holland. Sony and Marvel indeed announced a few weeks ago that a new feature film was in development. It will be about following Peter Parker after high school, while he will try by all means to help his friends to remember him.
