The Apple Watch Series 7 is the victim of a bug. Following the installation of the watchOS 8.3 update, many users are no longer able to charge their smartwatch with a third-party charger.

In mid-December, Apple rolled out several updates to its devices: iOS 15.2, iPadOS 15.2, tvOS 15.2 and watchOS 8.3. This latest update is dedicated to watchOS, the operating system for the brand’s connected watches. The firmware adds in particular the Voice offer from Apple Music, a cheaper subscription that allows you to launch music only with Siri.

Unfortunately, the update also causes failures on the Apple Watch Series 7, the latest connected watch from the California firm. According to a host of testimonials that have appeared on the web, installing watchOS 8.3 prevents certain units from recharge completely.

A bug prevents the Apple Watch Series 7 from recharging to 100%

“I updated my watch last night to around 8.3, put it on my third party charger this morning, came back after an hour and it had gained only 2%. I tried the same with my spouse’s watch and his third party charger with the same result ”, testifies a user on Reddit, the American social network.

Most of the affected users claim that the bug only occurs while usinga third-party brand charger. The recharge then refuses to work after a few minutes or the process is abnormally slow. This is also the case with chargers from certified brands, such as Belkin. The user is then forced to turn to the charger provided by Apple. However, it should be noted that some users still encounter random malfunctions with the official charger.

“Restarting the watch and the phone does not work and further tests show that the watch stops charging fully after a few minutes”, continues the Internet user. Obviously, the problem mainly affects the Apple Watch Series 7. The previous editions of the connected watch are not affected. We haven’t noticed anything about the Watch Series 5 or Series 6 around us.
