ASUS ROG Ally is the most exciting gaming device announced this quarter. The Taiwanese manufacturer is releasing information about it with droppers and the last published is that it is ready for international launch and that it will hit the market “sooner than you expect”.

With the Steam Deck as a big boost, handheld gaming machines are resurrecting in sales. But what we’ve seen so far from ASUS, its handheld console is going to be a great machine, with “the fastest AMD APU to date”. Most likely a ‘Phoenix’ series SoC with Zen4 CPU and RDNA3 graphics customized for this machine. It will be equipped with a dual-fan cooling solution that is said to be significantly quieter than the Steam Deck.
As for the screen, a 7-inch diagonal panel with FHD resolution, 500 nits of brightness, 5 ms response time and a 120 Hz refresh rate is expected. As you can see in the images, it is accompanied by buttons, triggers, a D-pad and sticks similar to those of a console controller. It will include special software to customize the various buttons and triggers and it also looks like it will have RGB lighting options on some parts of the chassis.
And for those who need more performance, attention to the ROG XG Mobile eGPU connector dedicated that includes and to which an external graphics card could be connected to use it as a desktop console in front of a television. Very interesting, but the problem here would be that the price would increase a lot. In any case it would be optional.
The ASUS ROG Ally will work on Windows 11 and with Microsoft’s Game Pass as the main service for use, which is not the only one, because it will also support Steam and others, in addition to running any local game. They say that the price will be “very competitive”, but it has not been expressly announced. Some sources speak of 650 dollars.
