Casio’s new G-Shock is just as tough, but smarter

The Casio G-Shock line of sports watches has a legion of fans. And it is logical. Those of us who enjoy nature, be it running, cycling, hiking or out of pure need to get rid of the punishment that big cities entail, value this series of rugged watches.

Although Casio has been adding smartwatch features in recent years, the series still lagged behind the competition from giants like Garmin. Now, Casio is adding a suite of technologies from another heart-rate great, Polar, to make its watches smarter than ever.

To do this, this new model adds a set of additional sensors that allow to improve the functions of monitoring of the health and the physical state, maintaining the degree of resistance of the series. Includes GPS to automatically track all activities, a heart rate sensor, an altimeter, a temperature sensor, a built-in compass, a gyroscope, and an accelerometer.

On the previous model, it has other improvements. For starters, it’s a 38% lighter Thanks to the use of new carbon-reinforced resin materials and a thinner rechargeable battery, which, while retaining the double-layer design against bumps or falls and resistance up to 20 bars, weighs only 68g.

In addition to the capabilities of Google’s Wear OS operating system, it has added the Polar database for sleep analysis or breathing exercises, as well as activity monitoring such as running, cycling, swimming, gym workouts, the time spent intervals and more.

The new Casio retains features that have made the series popular, such as solar charging, USB cable or wireless to recharge a battery that in watch mode will last almost two months of autonomy or 16 hours with all sensors activated. The Casio G-Shock GBD-H2000 will be available starting in two color finishes for a price of $299.
