Until a few hours ago, it seemed like that Emma Stone was ready to follow in Scarlett Johansson’s footsteps by suing Disney for Cruella’s arrival on Disney +. Instead, much to the surprise of fans, the actress officially signed up to return in Cruella 2, taking up the role of the villain de 101 Dalmatians.
It’s official: Emma Stone will be back again in the Cruella sequel
“Although the media landscape has been significantly disrupted for all distributors, their creative partners cannot be pushed aside and forced to bear the unbearable burden of negative consequences without the potential for an increase.” said Patrick Whitesell, the chairman of the firm who serves as an agent at Stone. “This agreement demonstrates that there can be a fair path that protects artists and aligns the interests of the studios with those of the talent. We are proud to work alongside Emma and Disney, and appreciate the studio’s desire to recognize her contributions as a creative partner. We hope this agreement opens the door for other members of the creative community eager to participate in the success of the new platforms. “
The contract therefore seems to envisage the possibility of a release both in cinemas and in streaming on the Disney + platform; a practice that could therefore become the norm also in the future.
Not much is known about the sequel at the moment, except that it will be written again by Tony McNamara and directed once again by Craig Gillespie.
