Perhaps you are missing the odd title from the Disney+ catalog right now and with good reason. The platform has been doing important pruning for some time in its entertainment offer, with the elimination of several shows that until now had been available – several, in fact, have been on the bill for a relatively short time. There is a compelling reason for this. We explain it to you.
Cuts and more cuts
It is no secret that 2023 is not being a good year for many companies. Many businesses have had to cut back and remodel, something that has also affected companies related to the world of entertainment. Among them is Disney, which during its last financial results meeting already confirmed that it would eliminate part of the streaming programming both in Disney+ like in hulu and Star+.
The idea with this, of course, is to do a good cleaning of the content and, above all, save costssome 1,800 million dollars that it is estimated that they will be able to save with this decision -yes, everything here costs money.
Already in May, the firm decided to shelve Willow -with which they found their premiere!-, The mysterious society Benedict, Nate’s dream and bigshot, among others, but these have not been the only titles that have suffered such bad luck. Now there are many more.
More disappearing titles
The CEO of Disney, Bob Iger, has already confirmed that the first elimination goal (which occurred in May) would only be a first wave, and that after it, we would have at least a second one to continue saving several million more. Said and done, new titles have already disappeared, some that you may already be missing on your Smart TV.
Undoubtedly, among them the most striking has been Crater, an original film from the house that was released just a few weeks ago (less than a month and a half) and that the firm has not cut a hair to make disappear despite the millions of dollars that its production cost.
With this it is clear that Disney + is not for experiments nor does it plan to be patient, eliminating everything that bothers it without regard. The house has also confirmed that will reduce notably its local productions and will focus more on global ones, with the idea (we imagine) of reaching the whole world in a more general way and having a greater probability of “hitting” the audience.
