Do you know that the number of times you blink depends on your monitor?

It is an important issue, because depending on the monitor you use or your habits, your eyes may be suffering to a greater or lesser extent. And when we talk about health issues, the thing is important.

How many times do I blink?

Well, although each person is different, I am going to tell you about the general average. Each of us blinks about 20 times per minute, however, while looking at a screen, these are reduced to about 3 or 4 occasions. Something worrisome since the dryness of our eyes and, therefore, visual fatigue can be affected. Hence, many times, after spending hours in front of a computer, we end up with a headache and red eyes.

Dry Eye

This number of times also changes depending on the type of monitor you’re using. For example, the old CRT screens required even more visual concentration, so our blinking frequency was even less.

What does it depend on?

Basically pixel density per inch have our screen. The higher it is, the more it will resemble reality and therefore the less concentration and visual effort we will have to make to observe it, which will lead to a greater number of times that we blink and consequently less dryness of our eyes.

That is why it is interesting to always buy quality monitors, which have not only a great pixel and density ratio, but also other protection systems for our eyes such as Flicker Free or Low Blue Light Plus technology.

screen density

Using a screen from many years ago can damage our eyesight faster than doing it with a current one, and you can check it yourself, record yourself for a while using two different monitors and observe the number of times you close your eyes. There you will check with which of them you are forcing your eyes the most.

There’s a solution?

I have already told you the simplest, replace your monitor or screen with another. However, if you use a device in which you cannot change it or directly cannot afford it at the moment, the only possible way to rest your eyes is that, stop, wait and relax them from time to time, and not spend hours without a pause. Since the glasses or special filters for your vision are useless in this case, they only protect from harmful waves from the screens, but they will not change your need for concentration to view them, because as we mentioned before, it is because of the quality of the screen and its density, not by radiation or other factors. So now you know, protect your eyesight, that health comes first.
