Do you collect old glories?
The fact is that one lived anchored in this new online reality and clouds and happy and content that you don’t have to use an optical drive with your computer, until you start digging through the chest of old glories. The subscriber is a collector of video games, of all kinds, and PC too. Due to my professional career, I had to live the first decade of the 2000s directing a magazine specialized in computer games and I maintain a collection of classics that, taking advantage of the last long weekend in Madrid, came to light among the dust and the boxes.
In that discovery I found myself face to face with a huge number of games from that first decade of the 2000s with all the releases of FX Interactive and their impreivmfor example, but also adventures like hollywood monsters, Deponia, etc. The list of titles in DVD format was enormous and, to be honest, I must confess that I had a crazy desire to try some of themwhich still didn’t need an internet connection to work: we just had to install the game and get to work.
That moment was the first in many years that I REALLY missed having an optical drive in my computer, to recover those games that I would otherwise have to buy again to enjoy them for a while. And yes, it is possible to buy most of them in some digital stores (those from companies like Electronic Arts, Ubisoft, the extinct LucasArts, etc.), but many others are no longer available, as is the case with the wonderful editions of FX Interactive, which were true works of art translation and exclusive adaptation to our market.
Is there an alternative?
As I told you, the discovery of that huge number of games on CD and DVD made me wonder if there was any possibility of Install an optical drive in the PC. Looking at the tower that I have now, I found that it doesn’t even have an option to install one, so I had no choice but to look at some external models that work so well through USB 3.0.
as I tell you, having a DVD drive right now on your computer may seem like an anachronism because you are not going to use it at all, but in cases like mine, I have a long collection of games in that format and, also, many backups of old computers with photos, videos and documents to be archived and ordered in the cloud, having a peripheral with these characteristics at hand is practically an obligation.
So if you are in the same way, here I leave you the option that I opted for to be able to use all that material that I keep at home. An external CD and DVD reader/writer drive that works with USB 3.0 and type C connector that will come in handy so as not to leave behind all that old, and glorious, material. Now I am a tad calmer for being able to continue enjoying these wonders.
