Good news for GTA Online players. Rockstar has finally released a fix for a serious security flaw spotted just a week ago. This vulnerability allowed a third party to modify your account statistics or ban you from your own session.
On January 23, 2023, we mentioned in our columns a new critical security flaw in GTA Online. As explained by the Tez2 Twitter account, which specializes in game news Rockstar Games, this vulnerability notably allowed a third party to modify the statistics of your account. Thus, a pirate could in particular Completely drain your GTA$ savings or reset your reputation level.
Even better, it was also possible to cause crashes or kick players out of their own session. But there was more serious still since according to Speyedr, the developer of Guardian (a custom firewall for GTA 5), this flaw also allowed an attacker to execute code remotely via GTA Online to spread malware on your PC.
Dark Souls servers suffered a similar flaw in January 2022, and to remedy the situation, studio teams were forced to take the title’s multiplayer servers offline for several months.

Rockstar finally fixes this critical flaw in GTA Online
On January 24, 2023, Rockstar announced on Twitter that they were aware “of these new exploits on GTA Online” on PC and a fix was in the works. Well, good news since the American studio has just rolled out this highly anticipated update. Here is what you can read in the patch note :
- Implementation of a new data protocol in GTA Online to improve the security of network sessions and messaging between players
- Fixed an issue that could cause the GTA Online experience to change of a player by a third party, including: modifying the GTA$ balance, RP level, bad player status and other player statistics
- Fixed an issue that could result in manipulations to cause the crash of a player’s session or his exclusion
In parallel, Rockstar also announces general performance improvements and the stability of GTA V’s multiplayer mode.
