Vegetables and fruits are essential in a healthy and balanced diet. Everyone knows that its consumption contributes to improve physical condition, but there is still a great lack of knowledge regarding the benefits that these ingredients provide at the emotional. According to various studies, and although many people do not know it, what we eat affects our emotions. So much so that 71% of Spaniards who consume fruit and vegetables on a daily basis declare that they feel happier since they have adopted this diet.
This is revealed by a survey recently carried out by the company of Navarre origin, Florette, within the campaign #EatWellToBeHappy, with the aim of deepening the perception that Spaniards have about how their diet can influence their emotions. In this way, the study reveals that 57% are aware that these raw materials not only make them feel better physically, but also emotionally.
Healthy food, positive emotions
The Florette survey also reveals that, thanks to the daily consumption of vegetables and fruits, 30% feel Calmer. Likewise, a quarter of Spaniards declare they have less anxiety and stress, while 27% have more energy and 18% are less irritable.
These data show the relationship of positive emotions with a diet rich in fruits and vegetables. In accordance with Mareva gillioz, integrative dietitian and coach specialized in food and emotional well-being, this is because our brain and intestine are closely related. “Our gut microbiota modulates our emotional health and well-being. This is the reason why, if our intestine suffers from inflammation and discomfort due to what we eat, we will have a ‘inflamed mind’. For this reason, and because it also contains its own neurons, the intestine is often referred to as the ‘second brain’ “, clarifies the expert.
But what happens in reverse? What foods do Spaniards choose based on their emotions? Florette’s study indicates that most opt for fruits and vegetables when they are happy and also when they are calm. However, if the feeling is sad, it is common to resort to sweets such as chocolate and sweets. These same products are favorites in times of stress.
What else makes us happy?
Through his survey, Florette wanted to know what other everyday things make Spaniards feel good. In addition to a diet rich in fruits and vegetables, study participants ranked in the top three practicing exercise and listening to music.
In addition, eight out of 10 Spaniards claim to feel happier knowing that they contribute to caring for the environment. Specifically, in the field of food, the three most common sustainable measures are, In this order, choose fresh products such as those from Florette (55%), take advantage of what is left over from one meal to prepare another (47%) and buy the right amount of ingredients to avoid food waste (45%).
Prepared and healthy dishes
Finally, Florette asked the Spanish about the ready-to-eat and healthy options available in supermarkets. Thus, 46% consider that there are more and more practical and healthy options, while 54% find it difficult to find them.
To help you in the search for dishes that save time in the kitchen and that are healthy and nutritionally complete, the Navarra company has just launched Fresh Vegetable Recipes on the market, a new range of products made up of three varieties: Vegetables from the Garden, Peas with Ham and Green Beans with Potatoes. These are recipes with the flavors that you like the most and that are made with the most natural ingredients, without preservatives or colorings.

For this reason, at Florette we will continue working to offer consumers practical products that help them eat well to be happy, even when they don’t have time to cook. “, concludes Núria Arias, Florette’s marketing director.
