HPE opens a Global Center of Excellence in AI and Data in Las Rozas

Hewlett-Packard Enterprise today opened a new Global Center of Excellence (CoE) in Artificial Intelligence and Data at its Spanish headquarters in Las Rozas, Madrid.

The inauguration was attended by Isabel Diaz Ayusopresident of the Community of Madrid; Carmen ArtigasSecretary of State for Digitization and Artificial Intelligence; Jose Maria de la Torrepresident of HPE Spain and Southern Europe; louis buezodirector of the global practice and of the Global Center of Excellence in Artificial Intelligence and Data, as well as representatives of private and public universities and prominent managers of the Madrid business community.

With the goal of centralizing talent and expertise focused on AI services and data modernization, the CoE will help HPE meet the growing global demand for consulting and professional services in this field. The team of AI and data professionals will help companies and institutions around the world apply Artificial Intelligence, data and advanced analytics to discover new insights, create trusted transactions and employ AI in new, ethical and safe ways. .

“This new Global Center of Excellence will help companies and institutions around the world extract more value from the growing volumes of data across their organizations. At Hewlett Packard Enterprise we unite talent with technology, which allows us to promote entrepreneurship, agility, innovation, quality employment, sustainability, ethics and all those elements that make up a virtuous circle in the local ecosystem, generator of economic wealth, well-being and social commitment”, declared José María de la Torre.

Investment in the HPE Global Center of Excellence

The creation of the Center generates new jobs in Spain, especially aimed at professionals who are starting their professional careers. HPE has already started recruiting new profiles and is collaborating with local universities to select graduates and postgraduates for a wide range of bachelor’s and master’s degrees, including AI, Big Data and Analytics, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics and Engineering.

In the next few years, HPE anticipates creating approximately 100 new jobs to provide services from the CoE worldwide, with a investment of approximately 15 million euros.

Carme Artigas has declared that «the growth of disruptive and high-impact technologies such as AI and data is an unstoppable trend globally. They are key elements to advance the objectives of sustainable development and the resilience of a productive and energy model forced to reinvent itself in a digital key”.

For her part, Isabel Díaz Ayuso wanted to highlight during the inauguration that “a center like this satisfies a growing global demand”, stressing that both AI and advanced analytics “help everyone and companies, especially, to achieve their goals” Therefore, “more and more people require professional and consulting services in this field.” In addition, she has added that it is “key to economic development” and allows both companies and citizens and administrations “to be more efficient” when making decisions.

“We see a growing demand from our clients to help them use AI and advanced analytics to achieve their business goals,” added Luis Buezo. “We are building a team of people who can drive innovation with new AI and data use cases, and who can also train and collaborate with HPE team members and partners, while building their careers in an area exciting and fast growing.

AI Usage Examples

During the inauguration, two examples of AI use cases were shown. The first has been the Application of Artificial Intelligence to digital pathology images lymph nodes to improve the detection of lymphomas, increasing the accuracy and efficiency of diagnostic processes. The second example demonstrated the application of quality control in the manufacture of products based on the artificial vision. By training, deploying, and managing the recognition of different objects, AI models can be developed and applied to improve product quality, instead of using traditional manual inspection methods.

The Global Center of Excellence in AI and Data will also work closely with the AI Ethics Working Group from HPE. It is an international and multidisciplinary working group whose mission is to guarantee the responsible use and development of AI to achieve objectives that benefit people, companies and governments, while respecting fundamental ethical principles such as privacy and prevention. of improper uses that may violate human rights.
