Remember, in May 2021 Volkswagen created a surprise by unveiling a brand new concept car: the ID.X. This electric GTI was announced to be overpowered with these 329 horses, for 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.3 seconds. To this must be added an all-wheel drive and a Drift mode, for those who like to burn rubber on the circuit. If this concept car was not intended to be marketed, it will nevertheless serve as a basis for the development of the ID.3 GTXthe sporty version of the ID.3, the German manufacturer’s electric city car.

In September 2021, brand boss Ralf Branstatter said in an interview during the IAA in Munich that the official presentation of the ID.3 GTX will take place in 2022, followed by the start of production. Eventually, the firm decided to revise its plans. Indeed, the ID.3 GTX will be based on a revisited version of the ID.3. Problem, the launch of this new model of the city car is not planned before 2023.

No ID.3 GTX before 2023 minimum

By extension, the production of the ID.3 GTX is inevitably postponed until next year, if all goes well. In any case, announced Martin Hube, spokesperson for the brand during the presentation of the ID.5 in Austria. “Of course, the project is progressing. For the redesign of the ID.3… We will soon have very interesting details and of course we are convinced that the expectations of the customers for a little more power, for an all-wheel drive are there, and the wish of the customer is this that we have to achieve”, did he declare.

Note that the ID.3 GTX should not be as powerful as the concept car mentioned above. The 245 kW engine is no longer in the game. We should rather find the same engine group as that of the ID.4 GTX, that is to say 220 kW all-wheel drive. It should be added that Volkswagen is also experiencing serious difficulties on the production lines of its electric cars. Data that is taken into account in the decision taken by VW to postpone the launch of the ID.3 GTX.

Indeed, Volkswagen announced last week that it “was basically short of electric vehicles in Europe and the United States for the rest of the year”. These problems also affect all brands of the VW group.such as Audi, Porsche, Skoda or even Seat and Lamborghini.
