Launched in 2015, Windows 10 is now on the decline. Not in terms of popularity, since this version of the operating system remains the most widely used in the world, by far. Windows 10 has more than 73% of users worldwide, compared to 20% for Windows 11 (source: statcounter). On the other hand, Microsoft has already signed the death warrant for its operating system.

Microsoft has just revealed that the 22H2 edition of Windows 10 deployed in November 2022 is actually… The latest “major” OS update.

Windows 10 will therefore no longer benefit from any major new features in the years to come. Users of this version of the operating system will therefore have to settle for security updates and patches of all kinds. Or failing that, they will always have the option of upgrading to Windows 11 for free, provided their configuration allows it. Unless you use a little trick to circumvent the limitations imposed by Microsoft on non-compatible PCs.

Microsoft has made this announcement to reveal for the occasion the death of Windows 10: that is scheduled for October 14, 2025. All editions of the operating system, whether Home, Pro, Enterprise, Education, Pro Education or Pro for Workstations will no longer receive any security updates from this date .

Finally, Microsoft also specifies the next versions of Windows 10 LTSC (dedicated to companies) will be released in the second half of 2024. Only these editions will be entitled to updates until January 2027. The IoT Enterprise version will even benefit from support until January 2032.

Anyway, you still have a little time to continue using Windows 10. But at the end of 2025, it will then be definitely time to migrate to a new version of the OS or, why not, to a Windows 10 system. alternative operation.
