Who doesn’t remember the controversial tycoon John McAfee, creator of the antivirus that took his name and who always stamped the headlines with some arbitrary news? A year ago he was found dead after being arrested in Barcelona, Spain — and his body has not yet been released to return to the United States.
It is worth remembering that McAfee had been wanted for some time by the American justice system on account of tax evasion, and for that reason he was intercepted at the Spanish airport in October 2020.

As it could not be different when it comes to the founder of McAfee, John was arrested in 2020, at the airport in Barcelona, accused of tax evasion. On June 23, hours after the local court authorized McAfee’s extradition to the United States, he was found dead in his cell and the reason given was suicide.
As strange as the cause of death was, the case became even more suspicious after the executive’s widow, Janice McAfee, stated that she would seek “answers”, as she did not believe that her husband could have simply taken his own life.
“It’s hard to put into words what life was like last year. I still can’t believe John is gone,” Janice tweeted, also asking her followers to help her by signing an online petition, created to pressure authorities to release McAfee’s body so he “can finally rest”.

In February, shortly after his arrest, the executive even tweeted about being 76 years old behind bars. He said:
“I’m on my 76th birthday. In prision. Awaiting trial for extradition.
Maybe you’re not in the best position to give advice.
But anyway…

Could conspiracy theories be inserted here?
Perhaps. But the fact is, a year ago, John McAfee’s body still hasn’t returned to where it was supposed to be, and his widow, Janice, is still struggling to bring her husband back home — and in particular, trying to get a second opinion on his death. antivirus creator.
According to the family, the original autopsy was incomplete and for that reason they would have requested further investigations, which in turn were denied by a local judge. The family appealed that decision and the judge reportedly prevented the body from being released until a new decision is enforced.
THE Reuters, Spanish authorities said that McAfee’s body was not released precisely because the family asked for further investigation into the cause of death. And apparently, even after a year, the investigations are still not complete.
